Unparalleled, staggering cliff views, the ‘bluest of blue’ seas and skies and the craggiest of coastlines. Mix that in with ‘lifestyles of the rich and famous’, stag and hen parties, milestone birthdays, nightclubs (the only ones on the coast) and destination weddings; NOW THAT S CAPRI. Needs at least a 1 night’s stay (we did 2), as the evenings are pretty special- more so as in the day the town s overrun by cruise liner day-trippers.

Capri s an island. No outsider vehicles allowed. The only cars you ll see are those owned by the ‘Caprese’. And these fun open topped vintage ‘taxis’ ferrying tourists up and down.

We took the bus-Rupee Euro conversion always at the forefront ? and Capri aint cheap – trust me ? .

The walk down from the ‘piazzetta’ to the harbour is worth the sweat- no need to hike back up- they have a cable car ? .

Renting a private sail boat was such a blissful way to spend the afternoon (back then that was a first for us ? )…n not so expensive really (€80 for the 2 of us, for a private boat with a captain/guide, for 3 hours. Not bad right?)

Look out for a boat called Vagabondo. Embarassingly, i ve forgotten our captain s name, but he was delightful.

We swam in secluded coves- and right into the Green Grotto – Grotto dello Smeraldo. Snorkelled at the best spots, picnicked on a private beach and basically ‘blissed’ out.

Dont bother with the Blue Grotto – its swarming with boatloads of tourists almost like a pilgrim spot. The Green Grotto is as pretty and its practically your private coral cove- if your captain times it correctly to the tide…

Our cruise around the island was comparable to a drive down Miami s ‘millionaire drive’. Homes of Dolce and Gabbana, Sophia Loren, Giorgio Armani..And on and on. Homes of the rich and famous all around us and here we were picnicking out of our white plastic supermarket bag- wine, strawberries, sandwiches and chips. And it was heavenly. Honest and real.

One of the most gorgeous sunsets I have ever seen…

An evening out on the town is a bucket-list must do..bar hopping, people watching – oh- the most amaaazing sunset and such bliss inducing food.. Track down Cuoppo d’Amalfi, in the maze of streets, in the town centre for an amazing sea food munch.. and Buonocore Gelateria, one of Capri’s most celebrated establishments. You ll smell the crispy waffle cones, before you spot the place.

Oh and the shopping- its a miniature Rodeo Drive. Fun fact- Gucci actually has a handbag named after the island – The Capri Bag ?

Finding accommodation in Capri s not easy and that s an understatement. Especially in the summer and especially if you have’nt done it well in advance- which we had’nt. Well we got Anacapri- technically a separate village, but literally just 4 kms from Capri s town centre – Piazza Umberto or ‘La Piazzeta’. It wasnt bad actually.. so keep that option too for yourself .
